We're a 'Roots and shoots' school!

We have been working with Jane Goodall's 'Roots and Shoots' campaign to develop our outdoor area. Within this, we have worked hard on our outdoor area to make it a friendly and welcoming place for pupils and wildlife alike.

We have built bird hides from old pallets, planted a willow shelter to relax and have some quiet time in our meadow area. We have weeded so that the wild grasses and flowers can flourish and this summer our meadow was a sea of butterflies and bees.

We have improved our outdoor learning area by cutting back overhanging branches, erecting a canopy over the firepit and cutting back all the brambles and weeds. We have placed new logs for seating, cut steps up to the meadow area and added in some crafting tables & hand washing facilities.

Our pond now has a thriving eco system full of newts, dragonflies, frogs, toads, damselflies, water boatman and pond skaters, plus lots more.

We have also recently planted some trees and the saplings are growing well. In the future we will hopefully have another different mini eco system in our mini woodland area.

Our hard work was recognised in 2023 when we won three awards at the 'Roots and Shoots' award ceremony held at the Barbican in London. Please click here to find out more!
