Yr 5 visits the Enchanted Garden in Whitstable

We had our first trip out to the Enchanted Gardens in Whitstable as part of our project – The Butterfly Farmer. We had such a great day learning about butterfly friendly plants and the things butterflies need to survive and grow in number. We are going to use this knowledge to design and then create our own butterfly garden on our school field so we can be part of the butterfly corridor in Kent. We’ve decide to dedicate this garden to Dr Jane Goodall who inspired so many of our environmental projects in school.

Year 2 have been learning all about bees!

We had a visit into school from a beekeeper who brought in an observation hive of honeybees for us to see. She let us smell the honeycomb, look for the queen, listen to the sound of 3,000 bees moving around inside the hive, and taste two different honeys. She showed us her beekeeper gear and told us loads of facts about honeybees! We also went to Godinton house to look for bees, fortunately they seemed to be well trained so two of them posed nicely behind their identification photo for us! We listened to a story about bees and then created our own fuzzy paper bees to go and pollinate the garden....

Angora Class

Angora Class have been exploring what life was like when our grandparents were young, including interviewing some visiting grandparents to hear their stories first-hand. In English, we studied The Gruffalo and enjoyed a drama workshop with Ian from KiC Theatre. In Maths, we focused on understanding place value to 10. In Design and Technology, the class learned about stable structures and created their own sturdy pencil pots. As part of our environmental focus, we completed a litter pick around the school to explore how litter affects our environment and ways we can help care for...
